Getting the Biggest Bang From Monster

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Joseph Turner If you’ve received poor response from your online career sitesubmissions, you’ll soon change all that because here’s a secret thatmost folks don’t even know about. Today, we’re going to use aRecruiter’s Secret and use specific, pre-selected keywords. Were goingto build a more effective online profile that will draw far moreresponses from Monster and other online sites. So, lets get started. Once you register on Monster, choose: “Build Your Resume Online”. They allow you to set up 5 different resumes or profiles. Let’s justset one up for now. There are only 5 major areas that we will beconcerned with here: 1. Target Job Title 2. Objective 3. Resume Title 4. Job Title 5. Work Experience Tip: every one of these fields has keyword capability, so you must useeach of these areas to the fullest extent by including as many keywordsas are relevant, for example: Target Job Title: 2,880 character limit. That’s almost 4/5’s of a page,if you were to fill it up! List as many different job titles as you canimagine for this role. List other closely allied titles that thesearcher may be searching on. For instance, “Java Programmer” mightalso be titled as “Software Engineer”, “Application Developer”, or”Software Developer” within even the same corporation, not to mentionother companies. How many different but similar titles can you come upwith? Put them all here. Objective: This is your stated job goal and has a 2,000 characterlimit. Just as we talked about in yesterday’s lesson, transfer thatkeyword-rich objective from your revised resume to here. You shouldhave a decent short paragraph that showcases and combines your currentskills and your future goals. Remember, you want to stay away fromstandard cliches such as “Challenging opportunity as a (title) where Ican effectively use my (managing and sales, etc.) skills in my ongoingeffort to help grow an organization, blah, blah” This is not onlyboring, its also highly ineffective. Instead try something like:”Solid Java Developer with strong (skill#1), (skill#2), and (skill#3)to make major programming contributions to remote server projects whilegrowing to project lead role. The difference is each of the aboveunderlined terms is now searchable. Use each section in your resume toanswer one question only. By putting several keyword phrases under eachsection, you tighten up your focus and make your profile work for youby getting search engine hits when employers run database searches. Resume Title: Not much to work with here as only 70 characters areallowed. Make it a key term that is most relevant and searchable. Job Title: This (these) is (are) your current and past job titles andhas a 5,831 character limit. That’s 1&1/2 pages!! Put as many relevanttitles as you can think of here that you have held in your past workprogression. There is a huge amount of space here, so you may want toinclude specific job skill-sets that each of those titles required.Don’t be bashful. Work Experience: 3,000 character limit. Here is where you make sure toinclude every relevant skill-set that you possess. Keep to the barefacts. Almost every word you put here should be a searchable term. Youwant them to find you and here is your catchall chance to do it. Also, since many employers are looking for people who have, or are workingfor certain companies or organizations, make sure that you list everycorporation that you have not only worked for but also have donebusiness with as a client. Summary Dont rush this process. The online resume-builder will act asboth a resume and as a screening tool. This will gain you the edge as ascreen-in tool rather that a screen-out tool. Your objective is the same in all these online resume posting sites.Make it keyword-rich and you will definitely get more hits. More hitswill generate more calls. Herb Gardening With Culinary Herbs, Ornamental Herbs And Medicinal Herbs

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Mary Hanna Herb gardening has been around for centuries and the joys of an herbal garden is well know to many gardeners. Even beginner gardeners can have a high quality of success by starting with the basics and working their way up to a more complicated herbal garden. You can plant a container herb garden or an indoor herb garden. There are three categories of herbs that can be grown in you herbal gardens, culinary herbs, ornamental herbs, or medicinal herbs. Culinary herb gardening’s purpose is to add spice and flavor to your cooking. Culinary herbs are the herbs that use fresh or dried leaves in cooking. Some of the classic culinary herbs are parsley, oregano, rosemary and basil. You may even want to plant some sage and thyme. There is a difference between herbs and spices. Spices are seeds, roots, fruits, flowers, and bark while, as mentioned above, culinary herbs are fresh or dried leaves. When considering your culinary herb garden your most important decision is the location. You will need a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun. The more sun the herb garden gets the more flavor will develop in the herbs. Try to place your culinary herb garden as close to the kitchen door as possible. This will ensure that the herbs will be used daily. A simple and delicious way to use basil is to slice some juicy ripe tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. Overlap them on a plate, sprinkle on some extra virgin olive oil and chopped basil. It is also good with a squeeze of fresh lemon. Anyone that has grown a culinary herb garden and used the fresh herbs will tell you that the fresh herbs are superior over the dried herbs. Ornamental herb gardening can make your gardens not only practical but beautiful too. By “ornamental” we mean that the primary current usage is purely decorative. Some of these ornamental herbs have a long history of medicinal or culinary usage. Pots of ornamental herbs add color and texture to balconies or patios. They are perfect for lining your flower beds. A good example of an ornamental herb is Dittany of Crete, a favorite oregano herb of many herb gardeners. It will form a low mound and produce leaves with fine silvery hairs. You would never want to use this in cooking, it is strictly for show. Rue is another good choice for garden borders. Its unusual blue green color offers contrast to bright showy blooms. The rue leaves can be used as a garnish but because of its bitter flavor does not work in cooking. Ornamental herbs are just what they say, ornaments for your gardens. Ornamental herb gardening will add texture and interest to your flower beds. Now we come to medicinal herbs. Before the 1900’s medicinal herbs were used widely in the United States. Somewhere in the 1960’s herbs used as medicine dwindled. Now, many doctors are prescribing medicinal herbs as well as mainstream medicine. There are three ways that the medicinal herbs work on the body. Medicinal herbs have been known to strengthen an organ so that it can heal itself. Some medicinal herbs purge the body of toxins and illness, while others build up the immune system which will help in retarding illness. There are many ways to use medicinal herbs. A few are infusions, herb vinegars, ointments, teas and tinctures. For example, to make a healing herbal tea, boil water and pour over the fresh herbs in a cup. Let it steep for 5 minutes but no longer then 10 for it will get bitter. The medicinal herb stevia can be used as a natural sweetener and is easy to grow in an herbal garden. It also decrease tooth decay and gum disease if used as a mouth wash. Before starting any course of medicinal herbs, be sure to notify your Doctor to see if they will interact with any medicines you are currently taking. These are some of the basics of the three herb groups. Plan your herb garden, pick a bright sunny place and plant your herbs. Remember you can plant an herb garden in the ground, as a container garden or an indoor herb garden. Happy Gardening! Copyright Mary Hanna, All Rights Reserved. Ohio Lawyers

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Alison Cole The Supreme Court of Ohio is the highest authority controlling the practice of law in Ohio. Before being permitted to practice in Ohio, a lawyer must receive a law degree from a law school approved by the American Bar Association. If a lawyer attended a law school within Ohio, the school should be a member of the League of Ohio Law Schools. After obtaining a law degree, a candidate for admission to the Ohio bar must pass a background check, successfully complete a bar examination, and take an oath of office. The lawyer is then officially granted the title of attorney and counselor-at-law, and may practice in any Ohio court. To practice in a federal court, the attorney may need to pass additional examinations on federal law in certain jurisdictions. A lawyer may be hired for a number of reasons. If an individual is arrested for a crime, or is named as a defendant in a civil or criminal suit, a lawyer is almost always needed. In other cases, such as real estate transactions or bankruptcy proceedings, the need for a lawyer may not be immediately apparent. When in doubt, a good rule of thumb is to seek preliminary legal advice. Not doing so may jeopardize ones legal position later. With the many differences in laws from state to state, it is always a good idea to hire a local lawyer who is familiar with legal procedures in a particular state. Finding lawyers in Ohio is relatively easy. The Ohio State Bar Association website provides links to members of this voluntary association, and to regional and local bar associations. Most of these associations offer lawyer referral services to help make the search for a suitable lawyer easier. Friends, family members or other trusted individuals might also be able to provide word-of-mouth referrals. Ohio Lawyers provides detailed information on Ohio Lawyers, Ohio Accident Lawyers, Ohio Real Estate Lawyers, Ohio Bankruptcy Lawyers and more. Ohio Lawyers is affiliated with Pennsylvania DUI Law. Finding Work You Love

By Allan Fried Values & Needs Pick your top five values. Our personal values are our secret motivators. These are not moral values, they are what give us energy whether we are aware of what they are or not. You find it easy to be your best when you are engaged in them. They are part of us, we are born with them, and maybe we can add to them, but probably cant get rid of them. Look here for a list of values.Quiet other peoples voices in your head, the only wrong values are those that are not truly yours. Meaningful lives and careers are built upon bringing your words thoughts and actions in line with your values. Assessment Whether it is your first job or your fifth, unemployed or employed, figure out what you want before you start the search. Identify and evaluate all your gifts, skills and abilities; look at all your previous jobs, volunteer work, etc. What was it about these experiences, that you liked? What are you good at? What came easy? What did you hate? What are the ideal elements you want in your career? Salary, commuting time, type of people, independence or structure, benefits, organization size, etc. Create two lists of the above elements. The first should include all of the elements and skills you want in next your next job, and the second list should be the elements you dont want present, or the skills you dont want to use. Isolate what are absolutes for you in your work. What would be the deal breaker? What are the elements that need to be there for you to be your best at work? Who are you? What skills do you want to use? Which is the group of people you are most drawn to helping? Is the poor, elderly, teens, artists, homeless, students, teachers, Americans, Third World Countries, etc? What are you most passionate about? Is it the arts, environment, hunger? In What Geographical Location do you want to help them? Industries Build a list of careers, jobs, volunteer work, etc. that would fulfill your values, needs, the skills you want to use, and any other requirements you have such as salary, location, etc. Compile a list of all of the potential careers that include the elements you outlined above. Pick and rank your top five. This may require a bit of research. Check out: online.onetcenter.org Now write a paragraph indicating how you are going to fulfill your values and needs by using your skills, strengths, gifts, in your industry of choice to serve what you are most passionate about. Visualize it Use your mind to imagine you are working in the location, at the company, with the people you want to work with. Get into the details, the light, room colors, and kinds of people. How does it feel to have work you love? What is different? Visualize this daily, keep building on it, and adding the details. Action Our actions come from a deep relatedness to our values. When our work is connected to what is most important to us, it is easy for us to take the actions necessary to bring that goal to fruition. Tanning Beds Gives You A Lovely Golden Brown Skin

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Keith George Going to the seaside to get tanned has been a luxury with many from time immemorial. A lovely golden brown skin is a matter of pride for many young ladies and gentlemen. A bleak and harsh winter makes the idea of spending hours in sunshine very appealing. It is a fact that exposing the skin to the suns rays for long hours does more harm than good. The suns ultra violet rays cause skin cancer apart from minor irritants like sunburns. The tanning beds seem to be a solution to this problem, as people can get tanned without any side effects. But the origin of tanning beds is rooted in medicine. In the early twentieth century it was developed, to see if increased sunlight combats calcium deficiency. But this is a misconception. Tanning beds also expose people to health hazards. They give off long wave ultra violet rays which are more harmful than short wave ultra violet rays. Tanning beds have components that require regular maintenance. Some of the important components are tanning bed bulbs, internal fans, remote cable assembly, and lamp holder. Tanning beds are used both in home and tanning salons. Tanning beds in salons are clamshell shaped. Tanning salons have drawn a lot of flak because of health concerns. Prior appointment is needed to tan in a salon. Home tanning beds are convenient and can be used any time of the day or night. These beds are expensive. Many manufacturers offer warranties for more than a year and detailed literature about the product. Tanning beds are found all over the world. It is advisable to use tanning beds with caution. Long exposure can cause burns. Pregnant women should not use these beds. The basic concern about over usage of these beds is related to cancer as basil cell sarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and the most dangerous melanoma can occur. Skin cancer is the most serious side effect, but there are other side effects also. Apart from burning the skin, it causes the skin to become wrinkled and over exposure results in cataract. This in turn gives an old look. Tanning beds and tanning salons are now big business. Manufacturers and salon owners paint a rosy picture, but people should be told about the harmful side as well. Only a very judicious use of these beds is recommended. Tanning might bring a low in looks, but risking health is also foolhardy. Red Bull Energy Drinks: More Good Effects or Side Effects?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Low Jeremy With the popularity that Red Bull energy drinks comes the speculations about the side effects that it may have on those who are taking them. From the time that Red Bull first came out in the market, it became an instant hit among those who have tried and tested its effects on the body. It is no wonder why this energy drink have become a household name in no time at all. But along with its popularity came the speculations about its side effects. The idea is that if something is that good, then there must be something in the ingredient that can bring the opposite reaction. This may be one of the thoughts that the not-so-convinced consumers have in mind. One of the side effects that is being pointed out in Red Bull energy drinks is its caffeine content. There are those who believe that there are high amounts of caffeine being contained in a single bottle of this energy drink. What people do not know about is that the amount of caffeine present in Red Bull energy drinks is the same as the amount that is in one cup of coffee that people normally like to take. Caffeine in every other beverage is really not good for the health. Every health expert knows that high consumption of caffeine can bring about high blood pressure, alleviate heart disease risk and even diabetes. That is, if you are one of those who are addicted or is used to taking any beverage high on caffeine more than the normal number of times. But caffeine is also known for the benefits that it can bring to the body. Caffeine has the tendency to perk you up in times of weariness. It increases heart rate to give you that energy boost when you feel tired and drained already. These benefits are what the makers of Red Bull energy drink are focusing on. This just shows that caffeine in Red Bull energy drinks, in other energy drinks and other types of beverage is one issue that can be subjected to debates based from those who have seen more of its positive or negative effects. For those who are used to drinking Red Bull energy drinks, the only side effects that they have seen so far is the increased nervousness and anxiety. This is especially experienced by those whose body have gotten used to taking regular amounts of this energy drink. It can be pointed out that this reaction is not only seen from those who are taking Red Bull energy drinks. Almost all people who are dependent on any kind of energy drink have been found to be experiencing the same things. This is normal and to be expected from energy drinks. For that matter, any beverage that has caffeine content. That is why it is important that you should know firsthand what your body can tolerate and what it cannot. Before taking on energy drinks, make sure that you are aware of the ingredients that is present in every can or bottle. If you already have health problems, you first have to ask your doctor if it fine for you to take energy drinks. Experts advice are still the best advice of all. Try drinking Red Bull energy drinks and see how your body reacts to its effect. If you feel any side effects after sometime, you can always choose to stop drinking Red Bull energy drinks and get another. The choice is up to you. When Dieting Should You Weigh Yourself Every Day?

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Kathryn Martyn, M.NLP How to Break the Weighing HabitFace it, if you weigh yourself more than once a day, you are a serious scale addict, and if you let the number on the scale affect how you feel, and whether it’s going to be a good day, you are probably a bit too involved with that appliance. Danger, danger! Step away from the scale! The scale simply cannot tell the difference between muscle and fat, and while fat is bulky and lumpy, muscle is sleek and shapely. Muscle also gives you strength, agility and power. Muscle tissue can be used as fuel, but it is not your body’s primary fuel source. Fat on the other hand is a storage fuel for times of famine. It also shields our body’s organs and provides a protective layer from the outside world. Without some body fat we cannot survive, and without some muscle you’d not have the strength to get out of bed. But while fat is necessary, many of us have a bit more saved up than is necessary. Most of us never consider our body’s ratio of fat to muscle. We instead rely on the bathroom scale. We’ve been told we need to weigh a certain amount, or be within a certain range to the point that many who start eating well and exercising consistently abandon their plan when they don’t quickly see a difference on the scale. Even when their body is visibly changing, they still are disappointed if the scale won’t budge. If You Didn’t Weigh Yourself, How Would You Know You Were Losing Weight?Consider for a moment, those first hints that something is changing: Your waistband may be getting looser, your rings may be slipping off, your face may start to look a little slimmer, and your shoes, yes your shoes will start to become too big for your feet. Many will start losing in the hands and feet first. That’s just dandy, I know. We all strive for skinny fingers and toes, but I didn’t design the body, I just own and operate one. You may own and operate a car? Do you take care of it the same way you take care of yourself? Do you store gasoline in the trunk, in case you can’t find a gas station? Probably not. Do you stockpile extra oil and batteries? No, probably not. Then why do you worry about dinner when you haven’t finished eating lunch? Have you ever gone ahead and eaten something because you might get hungry later? Why do we worry so much about food when there is no scarcity that I’ve noticed? Where I live there is food at every corner, 24-hours a day, at the bank, the gas station and even the neighbor’s garage sale. Interestingly, I’ve found that when the scale suddenly showed a loss, greater than expected, it seemed to induce in me a desire to remedy the situation. I’d overeat that day and the next, somehow unraveling any good I’d done previously. Even with all the knowledge and sense in the world, we still become unsensible in the face of that judge, the bathroom scale! What Happens When the Scale Shows a Loss? Usually Congratulatory Eating.I think the problem isn’t that we are unhappy by the numbers so much as we expect certain numbers. If you are dieting, then you are wanting to see a lower number, but what happens when you do? Do you reward yourself for a job well done? Do you decide you’ve done so well, you might as well have a treat? The scale habit can adopting other ways to measure your progress, and starting a daily journal which gives you a way to chart what you are doing. You’re not stopping one thing so much as you are starting another. Ending one habit always involves beginning another. Get a small notebook or journal to take notes. If you want a fancy, leather-bound book that’s fine, but don’t stall on starting this exercise with the excuse you don’t have the supplies. Use a scrap of paper you found on the ground if you have to, but starting today, you are going to track your hunger levels all day long. Tracking the Elusive HungerRate your hunger level on a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being starving, and 10 being so full you’d explode if you ate another bite (most people should never experience either 1’s or 10’s). On this scale a 5 would be comfortable, 6 slightly above comfortable (maybe could have stopped sooner), 7 you over ate, and an 8 is starting to be a bit ridiculous, especially if you supposedly want to lose weight. A 9 or 10 is flat out crazy. A 3 could mean you’re hungry. Not starving, not going to come unglued if you don’t eat, but hungry. A two is waiting a bit longer than you probably should, and a 1 doesn’t occur except when you’re simply tied up and cannot stop to eat or you’ve gotten yourself stuck in a situation where there simply is no food long past when you’ve gotten hungry. You should rarely feel the hunger of a 1 or the fullness of a 9 or 10. You must decide the levels for yourself, but I’d suggest making an effort to wait until you are a 3 or lower to eat and making an effort to stop at or near a 5 or 6. Sometimes you may notice the sensation of hunger, note your hunger level, and then choose to wait. Don’t worry about it whether you eat or not for now. The purpose this week is to make a chart and get used to keeping track of something besides your weight. Reward Yourself for Doing the TrackingEvery day you successfully write down what time and your hunger level, you get a gold star, or a smiley face, or some other “fun” reward. Rewards should not be food. Instead make them be nourishing to your soul. Some people like stickers, some like to reward themselves later with a massage, new outfit, whatever you like is a-okay with me. I like to reward myself with a massage once a month (I’d rather get one every day like Bob Hope, but that’s another goal). Your goal is to achieve 5 or more “rewards” for the week. If you only manage two is that bad? Heck, no. It’s fantastic because it’s an improvement over the week before. Next week make an effort to at least achieve what you did the week before and possibly exceed it. Slowly you’ll develop a new habit, until you’re achieving 5 or more days every week of waiting for real hunger, and stopping at satisfaction. When you learn to understand your body’s various hunger signals, you’ll start losing pounds and inches, I guarantee it. Inches lost, is what matters. I couldn’t care less how much I weigh. What if my body was solid gold? It would weigh a lot wouldn’t it, and would I care? No, I’d feel pretty darn good about it actually. I’m worth my weight in gold, and so are you. Putting Hunger In PerspectiveI recently read a book by the only man to have survived alone on a raft at sea for more than a month - Steven Callahan. In Adrift, Seventy-six Days Lost at Sea, Callahan recounted how while slowly starving he dreamt of food, “My body knows what it needs. For hours on end fantasies of sweet ice cream, starchy baked bread, and vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables water the mouth in my mind.” Reading an account of Callahan’s survival in the face of sure death was inspiring to say the least. My husband is making arrangements to build a boat designed by Callahan, a 22-foot sailboat so he too can take off on a singlehanded sailing adventure across the seas. My husband believes he could survive as Callahan did, while I’m telling myself I’ll die of starvation if I don’t eat in the next half an hour. Adrift puts these things in much better perspective, I’d say. Wedding Albums Are More Than Just A Record Of Your Special Day

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Donald Saunders It is often said that there are two times when families come together at funerals and at weddings. Unfortunately this is all too often true. It is also true to say that photographs are rarely taken at funerals and so family wedding albums often form not simply a record of the event but a very significant document in the life of any family. For anyone of my generation who has lost both their grandparents and parents the memories of your family will often be confined to a few treasured possessions that have been passed down to you. Perhaps some items of furniture, china, a painting or jewelry. However much or little you have to remind yourself of your loved ones, you will also almost certainly have a collection of photographs and, more often than not, the family photograph albums. For the bride and groom their wedding album is a treasured memory of their special day and something that they will take out from time to time to share with members of their family, their children and grandchildren or to simply share with each other. But, in the years that follow, that same wedding album will become a record of family history for generations to come, as well as an important document of social history. For this reason, time and care should be taken over planning the photographs that you wish to have taken at your wedding and thought should be given not just to the usual photographs that any couple will wish to include, such as posed photographs on the steps of the church and the bride and groom cutting the cake, but also to photographs of the wider family and other guests. The day belongs of course to the bride and groom and they should clearly feature prominently in the finished album, but it is equally important to include both posed and informal shots of the wider family including the older family members, who will often take a back seat and need to be encouraged to get in front of the camera, and the children, who are often herded off to one side to play while the grown-ups talk. For any bride and groom their wedding album is an important part of the wedding day and quite rightly so. However, weddings albums represent a great deal more than just this single event and a little bit of extra thought in planning your wedding photographs can not only give you a wonderful record of the day, but also provide a true family heirloom. When it comes to eating for beauty, the rule is: the fresher, the better. Avoid processed foods whenever possible. The fresher your foods, the more nutrient packed. Keep that in mind when planning and preparing meals. Shop like the Europeans. Buy what you need for a few days, not an entire week. Cook things healthfully, eat from all food groups and vary your diet. Eat your veggies. Fresh vegetables, when available, are preferable to canned or frozen. Raw produce has a greater concentration of vitamins and minerals. Less time at the stove, thats attractive. All vegetables are beneficial. So, if canned is all youve got itll do. But remember to hit the market tomorrow. Green leafy vegetables are high in beta-carotene which is essential for healthy hair, eyes and skin. Sprouts prevent wrinkles and age spots. Include some on your dinner menu tonight. Fresh fruit are great for you any time of day. Sweeten up your breakfast, indulge in a fruity mid-day snack, have a healthy dessert. Cantaloupe is high in vitamins A and C, which promotes healing and controls oil on skin and scalp. Tomatoes (yes, they are a fruit) are packed with A (wrinkle and pimple fighter) and beta-carotene. Citrus fruits provide great doses of vitamin C. Again, fresh is best. What a sweetly indulgent way to take care of yourself! Proteins are building blocks. Turkey, chicken, fish, eggs, lean beef and soy all provide protein and B vitamins which support hair and nail health, and youthful skin. Prepared healthfully, theyll satisfy your appetite and your form. Fish, like salmon and sardines, are full of protein and Omega 3 which promotes glowing skin. Drink water. Lots of water. It purifies you all the way down to your cells, and speeds the regeneration of damaged tissue. So, even if you arent at your best now, you soon can be. Health and happiness equal beauty. When you eat goof foods, you’re nurturing your body. When youre nurtured, you feel good. When you feel good, you smile. When you smile, you look good. So eat and enjoy your way to a healthier, happier, prettier you. ———————————————————- Allison Saunders is a MAC qualified Make-up Artist and the author of an amazing new course, “Hollywood Makeup Secrets” a step-by-step simple video system for maximizing your inner and outer beauty potential.
